Ian Bird is a retired U.S. Coast Guard officer and now an artist/metal sculptor living in Arlington, Virginia. He specializes in Americana, incorporating discarded objects and reclaimed metal into his pieces. His work won an award at a national juried exhibition with Gallery Underground in Crystal City, Virginia. Women’s Day magazine featured his maps in an article. One of his maps is displayed at the U.S. Embassy in Conakry, Guinea as part of the State Department’s Art in Embassies program. His work is also displayed at George Mason University, Ashlawn Elementary School (Arlington), numerous businesses in Northern Virginia, and in many private collections nationwide.
