Continents of the world

Measures approximately 7x12 feet (year-2013)

This piece currently hangs at Ashlawn Elementary school in Arlington, Virginia. It is fabricated from sheet metal from numerous sources. Each of the 7 continents is its color, but not the same piece of material. This was to give the impression that there are many countries which make up the continent. Each of the individual pieces of material are cobbled together using all kinds of different fasteners – rivets, screws, bolts, etc. This piece is not just about the color, but the fasteners holding them together. The whole piece is attached to concrete re-enforcement mesh, to simulate latitude/longitude lines.
