Galaxie Revolving

NFS – I was inspired by Kurt Schwitters 1919 piece “The Revolving” on display at MOMA. He designed his work to represent the devastation of WWI and is laden with deep and heavy meaning.
I do not mean to make light of the poignancy of his work. “Galaxie Revolving” is light hearted, with a nod to the optimism of Mid-Century space-age design. It is constructed entirely of vintage car parts. The black background is the hood of a 1969 Chevrolet, the silver streak is chrome trim from an unknown (presumably 1950’s) car, each of the circles is cut from a different car panel, and the “Galaxie” emblem is from a 1960 Ford. The piece measures 48 x 22 x 2.5 inches.
